Memphis Kennel Club is proud to be a member club of the American Kennel Club (the "A.K.C.") - the largest and most widely recognized kennel club in the United States.

Memphis Kennel Club is historically significant as one of the original conformation dog show clubs in the United States.  It has the distinction of holding dog shows regularly since 1874!  This gives the Club the honor of being the longest existent show club in the Country. Continuing this proud tradition, the Club carries its commitment to dog shows from a proud past into an exciting future.

Dog shows are an exciting, fast-paced, competitive venue for owners and breeders to match dogs to determine which most exactly conforms to breed standards. Showing dogs is often referred to as an "art" because of the skill, time and energy necessary to breed and show a champion dog; yet, it is truly a competitive sport.

Like any competitive sport, winning requires a commitment to developing the skills necessary to compete and the dedication and endurance to prevail. Add the requirement that a dog meet the standard of its breed in structure and movement and it is easy to see how exciting and competitive shows can be.

Memphis Kennel Club is dedicated to providing its members with an opportunity to learn about and become involved in the sport of dog showing. Members meet in a cordial and congenial atmosphere to share their dog show experiences. In addition, as an integral part of learning to show, members learn about nutrition and health, grooming, show/ring etiquette and the rules and regulations applicable to A.K.C. dog shows. Members get to brag about their successes in the ring and obtaining those "points" so vital to the championship of a dog. You will, of course, have an opportunity to "brag" about your accomplishments as well! There are other important aspects to membership in the Memphis Kennel Club, such as community involvement, accessibility to services, public education, and the camaraderie of sharing your interest in dogs with people who share that interest.

MEETINGS:  We meet at Germantown Centre, 1801 Exeter Road, Room D, in Germantown, Tennessee, at 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month (except December).  The meetings include club business, a speaker or discussion session, and time to meet and socialize with other club members. You are invited to attend and participate at our next meeting!  Click here for driving directions!  At the Germantown Centre, go to the portico (covered drive) entrance on the southwest side of the building and enter the building there.  Our Meeting room is off the lobby.

SHOWS:  M.K.C. hosts two conformation dog shows, back-to-back, each year in August.   The shows draw  hundreds of exhibitors who regularly show over a 1000 dogs in the elimination-style competitive event.  See the "Newsflash" below for information about upcoming shows.

MKC shows are a perfect opportunity to meet breeders and learn about the various breeds.  There are numerous booths with a variety of "hard-to-find" dog related items that make the perfect gift for family and friends, both human and dog!  We welcome spectators and all our shows are open to the public.  See the next paragraph for information about our upcoming shows and conformation classes:

Memphis Kennel Club’s back-to-back All Breed Dog Shows will be held August 16 & 17, 2008, at the Southaven Multi-Purpose Arena (a.k.a. “The Arena”), 7360 Highway 51 North, Southaven, Mississippi. Click here for driving directions!  (Memphis Toy Dog Club will hold back-to-back shows on August 14 & 15.) Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Booth space available - click here for 2008 Booth ContractThere are some do's and don'ts associated with attending a dog show, so you may want to review Proper Dog Show Etiquette prior to attending our shows.
